Introduction: Exudate leakage and microbial colonization is a key issue when utilizing compression wraps and total contact casts that are left in place for the full 7 days. Methods:A non-woven polyvinyl alcohol dressing system with silver crystals* in combination with a moisture vapor transport foam** was used weekly under compression wraps and total contact casting systems to minimize exudate and bacterial load on the wound bed to optimize healing. Results:Patients experienced less maceration, less rate of infection and less pain over the course of therapy.Discussion: A non-woven polyvinyl alcohol dressing with silver used in combination with a moisture vapor transport foam can effectively promote healing and be left in place for 7 days with confidence.References:
