Tribute to a Pioneer
I have been receiving Addiction Professional for about a year now and it is very informative. One of the features in the July/August 2007 issue focused on Mel Schulstad. Years ago when I got my first job at the Arlington County, Virginia, Department of Human Services, I was one of Mel's secretaries. During that time I was very impressed with Mel's and the whole staff's vision of helping others.
After 25 years of service with Arlington County, I have retired and am now employed as a part-time substance abuse counselor with Volunteers of America here in Arlington. We are certainly blessed to have Mel, and thanks also to others such as Betty Bowers, Gladys String, and Jack Moore, who kept the vision of helping others going.
