Calling Out to Recovery Homes for May Retreat

Organizers of the first national association representing recovery residences are seeking to cast a wider net as the date of what could be a historic meeting approaches. The National Association of Recovery Residences (NARR) is asking anyone interested in establishing national standards for recovery homes’ operation to consider participating in a two-day retreat in Atlanta on May 20-21.

Recovery residence service providers are expected to convene at the retreat to discuss the establishment of national standards for sober residences, which have become a prominent part of the continuum of care in addiction but vary greatly in operations in a loosely regulated environment.

More than a dozen states, as well as groups such as State Associations of Addiction Services (SAAS) and Faces and Voices of Recovery, have been represented in ongoing dialogues that led to the official incorporation of NARR earlier this year. But Georgia Association of Recovery Residences president Beth Fisher believes there are many more groups and individuals out there who can join the discussion.

“I am getting at least an e-mail a day with someone or an organization that is interested,” says Fisher. Her association in Georgia serves as an accrediting organization for recovery homes in that state that commit themselves to professional standards.
