An Honorable Service

Daniel's posting this week reminds us of the complex issues facing returning veterans, as well as those who step in to serve them. It is heartening to see members of the addiction treatment community address these topics with purpose, as evidenced by inroads in the "Healing Those Who Serve" movement (www.healingthosewhoserve.org).
The Ranch treatment organization in Tennessee has announced that as of early this month, five treatment centers have joined its network designed to expand behavioral health treatment opportunities for returning veterans. The Ranch has committed to offering one of its treatment beds per month to returning veterans and their families. The Tennessee organization has prioritized treating soldiers through use of therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Now the effort it is spearheading could have an even more profound effect on an often neglected population.
