An Opportunity for Counselors in Turkey
The message of treatment and recovery continues to spread worldwide. One of the field's leaders in this global effort wants readers to know about a new opportunity to help out overseas. The Oya Bahadir Yuksel Homeless Adolescent Rehabilitation Center will open this November in southern Turkey (Gaziantep). The program is seeking substance use counselors who are fluent in Turkish (Turkish-Americans would be ideal). A commitment of 18 months to two years is desired. The program will accommodate more than 60 adolescent males who have been living on the streets, offering them six to nine months of rehabilitation, treatment, and training. The program already has a staff of about 50 from Turkey, and is supported by private donors and the host municipality. David J. Powell, PhD, president of the International Center for Health Concerns and a frequent contributor for the magazine, is serving as an adviser to the project.
