Connecticut outpatient provider changes name to reflect service expansion
One of the nation's most prominent opioid treatment programs (OTPs) is changing its agency name to reflect an expansion of services, including the introduction of counseling for youths at risk of substance misuse.
The Hartford Courant reported last week that the Hartford Dispensary, which has provided medical care in Connecticut since the late 1800s and has been highly regarded for its opioid treatment services since the early 1970s, will now be known as the Root Center for Advanced Recovery. The new name pays tribute to the Manchester-based nonprofit's co-founder, Joseph E. Root, MD.
New services being introduced in the organization, which treats nearly 6,000 patients per day across Connecticut, include an intensive counseling program for adolescents ages 13 to 17. This program will include services for at-risk youths who have not yet begun using substances, the newspaper reported.
