HRSA grant will support certification of recovery house managers in Texas

Texas recovery support organization SoberHood has announced that it has received a federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant to develop a training curriculum that will lead to certification of recovery house managers in the state.

Recovery residences in Texas already are eligible for certification, through the Texas Recovery-Oriented Housing Network operated by SoberHood, and this latest development will now establish a certification for some of the individuals who manage operations in the sober homes. The support from HRSA is in the form of a Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training grant.

The curriculum will be adapted from trainings established by the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) and its affiliates. Training will be offered via a combination of an experiential weekend retreat and an online learning management system.

To be eligible for the training and the resulting certification, individuals must have lived experience in substance use recovery, as well as a comitment to serving an adolescent and/or young-adult population. Recovery housing organizations are encouraged to partner in the effort and enroll eligible residents and staff; some of these organizations could serve as field placement sites for students.
