Texas university will locate sober housing across from recovery center

Up to two dozen incoming freshmen at the University of Texas next fall will have access to a sober on-campus housing option located directly across from The Center for Students and Recovery (CSR) at the school.

The Alcalde, the university's alumni magazine, reported this month that a partnership between CSR and the university's Division of Housing and Food Service will allow for the pairing of roommates in recovery who are committed to sobriety. CSR director Sierra Castedo said that the university's active recovery community gave rise to the implementation of recovery housing.

“UT recognized the need to support those students who are already excelling here, but need a little additional support to get the most out of their college experience,” said Castedo.

The strategically located Healthy Lifestyles Living Learning Community will be in the Moore-Hill Residence Hall across from CSR. “They'll have their safe space in the residence hall, but also have us readily available as a safe space,” Castedo said of the residents.
