Westport House chooses partner for adventure therapy program
Westport House, a Connecticut-based transitional living program for young men, has announced an agreement with the recovery coaching firm Adventure Recovery to develop an adventure therapy program for its clients.
The monthly excursions to be run by Adventure Recovery, which will target young men in Phase I of Westport House's sober-living and treatment programming, will include kayaking, backpacking and caving, among other activities. The Adventure Recovery coaches are outdoor educators with significant training in substance use disorders.
Adventure Recovery founder Tim Walsh said in a news release that the shared risk between coach and client in these activities builds trust and teamwork. “Once rapport is developed with the client, we explore deeper questions and the development of more personal goals,” Walsh said.
