Austin Recovery rebrands as The Council on Recovery
Non-profit organziation Austin Recovery recently revealed its new logo and name–The Council on Recovery—at its annual Speaker Series' Spring Luncheon. Making the announcement was president and CEO Mel Taylor.
Having joined forces with The Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston in 2013, the new, shared name and logo represent the end result of months of collaborative strategizing. The combined organizations aim to provide residential treatment services in Austin and intensive outpatient, family treatment and prevention services in both Austin and Houston, offering clients a full continuum of care.
This year's speaker at the event was Golden Globe-winning actor Jeffrey Tambor, who shared his personal story of recovery to a crowd of over 600 people at the ACL Live at The Moody Theater. The program brought in over $400,000 for addiction treatment services and recognized longtime board member and supporter Val Armstrong, who was honored with the organization’s Edith Royal Service Award for 2015.
The luncheon, now in its fourth year, serves as a fundraiser for the agency’s programs and services that impact the lives of some 500,000 individuals across the state, according to a company statement. To date it says the luncheons have raised more than $1 million in support of substance abuse treatment services.
