Center Integrating Research and Treatment Hires Medical Director
A facility that will integrate substance use treatment and research under one roof has hired Harshal Kirane, MD, as its medical director. Wellbridge Addiction Treatment and Research expects to open its 80-bed center in Calverton, N.Y., this fall.
Kirane most recently has served as director of addiction services at Staten Island University Hospital and as an assistant professor at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Northwell Health is one of the main partners in the Wellbridge project.
“By design, Wellbridge will integrate research based on technological tools and informatics to develop new targeted approaches to distinct phases of addiction treatment and recovery,” Kirane said in a news release from Wellbridge.
Kirane is board-certified in general and addiction psychiatry and was named a Staten Island Health Hero last year by the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation.
