Drama series `Elementary` among award winners for substance use depictions
Two of the most prominent winners in this year's Entertainment Industries Council (EIC) PRISM Awards for accurate depictions of substance use disorders and mental health issues were the CBS drama series “Elementary” and the long-running NBC daytime series “Days of Our Lives.”
Announced July 16 at a ceremony in Los Angeles, the awards honor entertainment in television, movies, music, online media and comic books. For Drama Multi-Episode Storylines, “Elementary” won in the substance use category for the third straight year. The series offers a contemporary version of the Sherlock Holmes character; Holmes is in recovery. “Days of Our Lives” won in the daytime drama series category, capturing its fifth PRISM.
Other winners included Drew Pinsky, MD, whose HLN show “Dr. Drew On Call” won in the Talk Show Episode category. Pinsky will host a magazine-style television show highlighting the various PRISM honorees in an FX program that will air during Recovery Month in September.
