Drug testing company sponsors youth basketball camps

Drug testing laboratory company Ameritox announced that it is sponsoring a series of summer basketball camps with an anti-drug message in Kentucky over the next two weeks.

The youth camps are organized by Operation UNITE, an initiative created by U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers to bring together businesses, government agencies and law enforcement professionals to fight drug addiction in the state. This is the second year of the “Shoot Hoops, Not Drugs” camps; this year's events will take place at five rural school sites under the direction of former University of Kentucky star Jeff Sheppard.

The camps seek to instill confidence and a sense of teamwork in the young participants. “Like too many other states, Kentucky is a battleground for prescription and illegal drug misuse and abuse,” Ameritox CEO Scott Walton said in a June 30 news release. “These camps offer a great way to keep kids interested and involved in healthy activities and to talk to them about avoiding unhealthy ones.”
