Education institute founder Greg Lovelidge dies at 65
Greg Lovelidge, 65, whose efforts as founder and president of the Institute of Chemical Dependency Studies were instrumental in furthering addiction counselor education and training, died Nov. 18 in Dallas, the institute confirmed this week.
The institute stated, “He valued the many diverse opinions from his colleagues regarding addiction recovery. He was able to share those ideas and opinions with many readers through Recovery Today,” a widely circulated newspaper for chemical dependency professionals.
Besides its standard substance abuse counselor education, the Austin, Texas-based institute offers training for certified criminal justice professionals, peer recovery coaches and nonviolent crisis intervention specialists. It has been in operation since 1992.
Lovelidge, a licensed chemical dependency counselor, served on the board of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) and also chaired the board of trustees for the nonprofit Palmer Drug Abuse Program in Austin.
