Opioid crisis among priority topics for public health training entity

The Public Health Training Center housed at the University of Arizona is focusing on the opioid epidemic among its priority issues as it announces receiving a $4 million federal grant to improve training of the public health workforce.

A news release this week quoted the director of the Western Region Public Health Training Center as saying that its training initiatives are focusing on the timely topics of the opioid crisis, mental health and childhood obesity. The center covers training in Arizona, California, Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, and is one of 10 university-based regional training centers under the Public Health Learning Network.

The training center's webinar and self-paced training topics include those focusing on substance use and mental illness; programs for individuals affected by homelessness; and medical complications associated with eating disorders.
