Faces & Voices will honor Herren next month

Faces & Voices of Recovery has announced that it will honor the recovery advocacy work of former professional basketball player Chris Herren as part of its America Honors Recovery event on June 25 in Washington. D.C.

A reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carnegie Institute for Science will pay tribute to the founder of The Herren Project, which assists individuals with treatment navigation, education and mentoring. Herren, whose basketball career was curtailed by opiate addiction but whose recovery journey has inspired many, established The Herren Project in 2011 and also established the anti-substance abuse initiative Project Purple the following year.

Faces & Voices of Recovery soon will announce the recipients of that evening's America Honors Recovery awards, which highlight the efforts of individual recovery advocates and recovery community organizations.
