Five facilities receive initial scholarships from testing company

Four California treatment facilities and one Maine center have become the initial recipients of treatment scholarship money in a $500,000 pool made available by drug testing company Sky Toxicology.

The recipients, selected in a random drawing on June 1 at the West Coast Symposium on Addiction Disorders, are Desert Palms Recovery in Cathedral City, Calif.; Miramar Health, Inc., in Laguna, Calif.; Healthy Partnerships in Fairfield, Calif.; Prototypes in Los Angeles; and Eureka Counseling Services in Rockland, Maine. Each center received $10,000 to apply to a treatment stay for an individual in need.

These are the first of 50 scholarships of $10,000 each that the relatively new vendor in the drug testing and medication monitoring industry will award between now and June 1 of next year in its Pass the Torch initiative, which it says it hopes will drive other companies in the industry toward similar efforts. The scholarships are open to any treatment facility; participation does not require a business relationship with the company.

Sky Toxicology's next scheduled drawing will take place at C4 Recovery Solutions' Clinical Overview of the Recovery Experience (C.O.R.E.) event in Florida next month. Facilities have a midnight deadline on July 22 for applying to be eligible for that drawing; doing so will enter the facility in subsequent drawings.
