Former Matrix Institute intern becomes clinical director

The Los Angeles-area Matrix Institute on Addictions has named Kenji Watanabe clinical director of its Woodland Hills location. Watanabe interned as a mental health therapist at the intensive outpatient treatment organization in 2007.
Watanabe is overseeing a team of three clinicians and two administrators. His experience includes work in acute psychiatric, juvenile justice and private practice settings.
The multimodal Matrix Model of treatment incorporates strategies that include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, 12-Step facilitation and contingency management. The Matrix Institute operates four treatment locations in the Los Angeles area.
