Gateway Foundation hires replacement for retiring CEO

Thomas P. Britton will take over as president and CEO of Chicago-based Gateway Foundation, Inc., on May 13, the addiction treatment organization announced this week. Britton, the former CEO of a division of Acadia Healthcare, replaces Gateway's longtime and retiring chief executive Michael Darcy.

Gateway board chair Glenn Baer Huebner said in a news release that the board considered Britton its best candidate to guide Gateway's strategic growth and maintain its reputation in clinical care because of his “requisite drive, clinical expertise and demonstrated business acumen.” Gateway operates inpatient and outpatient adult and youth treatment programs across Illinois and in the St. Louis area.

Britton has more than 20 years of behavioral health experience, in both clinical and business roles. He is a former accreditation surveyor, and established a treatment advocacy organization for low-income individuals in North Carolina.
