Gosnold expands use of innovative technique for patient expression

An expanded use of a technological tool for patient expression at Gosnold on Cape Cod is being made possible through the financial support of an individual who heard about the facility's innovative use of Expressive Digital Imagery (EDI).

The Gosnold at Emerson House women's program in West Falmouth, Mass., last month hosted a dedication ceremony for its Jennifer Gates Art Media Room, named after the late daughter of Nina Heald Webber. The room is equipped with tablet computers from which the women will create and manipulate photographic images and present them in group sessions as an alternative to standard verbal expression.

Webber offered Gosnold additional financial support for EDI, in memory of her daughter. Some of Jennifer Gates' drawings adorn the media room, along with photos taken in EDI sessions.

Gosnold initated use of EDI in its three-to-five week rehabilitation program. At the July 22 dedication ceremony in West Falmouth, an Emerson House patient who is a new mother shared her recovery journey through an EDI presentation.

“The dedication of the Jennifer Gates Art Media Room was a great day for Gosnold and highlights the innovative approaches we take to help our patients find a sustained and lasting recovery,” Gosnold CEO Richard Curcuru said in a news release.
