Longtime director retiring at Neil Kennedy facility

A leadership transition is under way at the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic in Ohio, where longtime executive director Gerald “Jerry” Carter is retiring and being replaced by a former director of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services.

Carolyn Givens, who currently serves as executive director of the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, will begin assuming the duties of executive director of the four-location treatment organization this month. The Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic, founded in the 1940s, is the Ohio subsidiary of western Pennsylvania-based Gateway Rehabilitation Center.

Carter worked at the Ohio organization for 38 years. He is also past president of the Ohio Chemical Dependency Licensure Board, past vice president of the Ohio Alliance of Recovery Providers, and a part-time instructor in the graduate program at Youngstown State University.
