New president and medical director will join Silver Hill
John Santopietro, MD, who has served as chief clinical officer of behavioral health at Carolinas HealthCare System in North Carolina, will become president and medical director of Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut in early September. Santopietro will replace Sigurd Ackerman, MD, who will transition to a president emeritus role at Silver Hill.
Santopietro is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has served on numerous behavioral health task forces, including state mental health commissions in both North Carolina and Connecticut. At Carolinas HealthCare System, a 900-location nonprofit healthcare delivery system, his efforts included integrating behavioral health services into primary care through telemedicine and launching a psychiatric residency program.
Silver Hill Hospital, which has been in operation since the 1930s, annually serves more than 2,000 adults and adolescents with substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders.
