Suboxone the Second Most Prescribed Drug in Maine
An independent agency that reports annually on prescription drug trends in Maine has found that the brand-name version of the buprenorphine-naloxone combination for opioid addiction is the second most prescribed drug in the state.
Brand-name Suboxone ranked behind only the generic blood pressure medication hydrochlorothiazide in the analysis from the Maine Health Data Organization, an agency that reports on prescribing and cost trends for pharmaceuticals.
The Associated Press reported on the findings, which attest to the gravity of the state's opioid use problem.
The only other central nervous system drug to appear in the top 10 most prescribed drugs in Maine was the antidepressant and sedative trazodone, which ranked number eight.
