Millennium Research Institute selects inaugural fellowship winner
Millennium Research Institute (MRI) has announced that Sarah Bagley, MD, a fellow in addiction medicine in the Section of General Internal Medicine at Boston University Medical Center in Boston, as the inaugural recipient of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Millennium Research Institute Research Fellowship Award, which provides funding to promising young researchers in the area of addiction treatment.
Bagley was selected on the merit of her research, which will retrospectively look at discrepancies between self-reported drug use and urine drug testing (UDT) results in an urban, academic primary care-based buprenorphine clinic setting. She will seek to assess the association between conflicting self-reports and UDT results at baseline and in the course of treatment with outcomes at 12 months, including treatment retention, subsequent UDT results and doses of buprenorphine. The research should add to the growing body of evidence describing the clinical application and value of urine drug testing as an objective diagnostic tool in the treatment of substance use disorders.
