Outpatient program introduces trauma track
Outpatients at the Park Bench Group Counseling addiction treatment program in southeast New Jersey now have access to a gender-specific trauma track that includes weekly small-group sessions exploring the link between addiction and trauma.
A news release from the facility, which is part of the Elements Behavioral Health family of programs, also states that patients in the day treatment/partial care program receive a post-treatment referral to a trauma-focused individual therapist.
“If we do not address the impact trauma has had on [clients] and teach them how to cope without using drugs or alcohol, then we are missing a huge component of treatment,” said Park Bench clinical director Jennifer Maguire.
Meditation and grounding exercises also are part of the small-group sessions on trauma, according to the outpatient treatment organization.
