Free programs on addiction issues available to nurses

As part of National Nurses Week May 6-12, two free courses and a free webinar on issues around substance use and the opioid crisis will be available to nurses, the digital resource Nurse.com by OnCourse Learning has announced.

The free resources for continuing education include:

  • The recorded webinar “Substance Abuse and Women,” in which host Susanne J. Pavlovich-Danis, MSN, RN, discusses topics such as risk factors for women and reproductive issues.

  • The course “Knocking Out Pain Safely with PCA,” focusing on patient-controlled analgesia risks and how risk of medication errors can be minimized.

  • The course “Medication Nonadherence: America's Other Drug Problem,” discussing the factors that can prevent nonadherence.

These offerings are part of a Confronting the Opioid Epidemic curriculum that will extend throughout this calendar year. Among the other program topics that will be introduced this year are knowing the danger signs of prescription drug abuse, evidence-based pain control, and pain management and ethics.
