Sheriffs` association will support 2018 Rx Summit

The Institute for the Advancement of Behavioral Healthcare has announced that the National Sheriffs' Association will be a supporter of the 2018 National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit, to be held in Atlanta April 2-5.

The Summit is the largest national collaboration of professionals from government, business, academia, the treatment community, law enforcement and others seeking to reduce the impact of prescription drug misuse and heroin use. The National Sheriffs' Association represents more than 3,000 elected sheriifs nationwide and has a total membership of more than 20,000.

“We welcome the partnership with the Institute for the Advancement of Behavioral Healthcare in finding common sense solutions that will reduce the prescription opioid and heroin overdoses that led to 64,000 drug overdose deaths nationwide in 2016,” said Sheriff David J. Mahoney of the Dane County Sheriff's Office in Madison, Wis.

“The National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit and National Sheriffs' Association will be collaborating on ways to ensure that sheriffs' perspective and success stories are included in ongoing national conversations on this public health emergency,” said Institute director Doug Edwards.

The Summit's educational advisor is Operation UNITE (Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education, Inc.), which serves a 32-county region in southern and eastern Kentucky to rid communities of illegal drug use through a comprehensive strategy.

The Insititute for the Advancement of Behavioral Healthcare's educational resources for the behavioral health field include Addiction Professional and numerous national and regional conferences.
