Runwell awards 12 grants to addiction treatment centers in its first year

After a successful first year in which it awarded grants to a dozen recipients in the U.S. and beyond, Runwell: The Linda Quirk Foundation is projecting an even bigger year in 2013. The foundation, a non-profit organization that funds addiction treatment centers and programs, awarded a total of $92,500 in grants in 2012. Runwell founder and internationally-known ultra runner Linda Quirk said she is excited by the foundation's first year success and is looking forward to expanding Runwell's impact in the coming year.

Fundraising goals for the athletes representing Runwell vary by event, and athletes typically seek sponsorship donations from friends and family as they train for their races.  During 2012, Runwell partnered with more than a dozen organized running events, from local 5Ks to ultra-marathons (including the ING New York City Marathon and Racing the Planet's 4 Desert series). Quirk said 2013 will see an expansion of the number of events which Runwell will be affiliated, including the New York City Triathlon which marks the foundation's first multi-sport event.

"We're thrilled we were able to support 12 treatment programs in our first year," said Quirk, who has completed marathons and ultra-running events around the world in support of addiction treatment efforts. "As a non-profit, we understand how a little bit of funding can go a long way. We look forward to seeing our grant dollars put to good use and will be following up with each recipient throughout the year."

Funds raised through this grant program support accredited treatment centers and programs around the world with funding for existing scholarship programs, professional development and family education.
