South Florida center initiates co-occurring services program
Cornerstone Recovery Center, a South Florida addiction treatment facility that like many of its neighbors has touted the Fort Lauderdale waterfront location of its residential settings, has launched a co-occurring services program for patients with an addiction and a serious mental health disorder.
According to a news release from the center, individual and group therapy for patients with co-occurring disorders will employ approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and validation and relaxation techniques.
The new program, for which Cornerstone has added a new wing to its treatment facility, will target more serious mental health conditions than what the organization has addressed previously.
“Rarely do we see a person with just addiction,” said Barbara Hernandez, LMHC, Cornerstone's program director of co-occurring services.
