Cumberland Heights continues to develop its sober-living component

Suggesting that it is seeking to correct a gap in the availability of high-quality sober living residences, Cumberland Heights has announced the opening of its second Tennessee recovery home in four months. The Keep It Simple! House for men opens today, joining the addiction treatment organization's recently opened Searchlight Sober Living for women.

Keep It Simple! will house up to eight men at a time at its Murfreesboro location, with residents staying at least three months and required to have completed primary treatment. Cumberland Heights' women's sober home opened last October and is located in Gallatin.

“While other recovery residences exist, there has been a gap between the very high end providing many services resembling treatment and the very low end which is affordable but offers no services and often has high turnover,” executive director for community-based services Randal Lea said in a news release last week.

The Cumberland Heights homes generally operate according to a social model of shared accountability that is generally designed to foster greater independence from authority figures.
