Guide offers ideas for supporting pregnant women in recovery
A guide to help individuals and families supporting women who are experiencing the dual challenges of pregnancy and treatment for an opioid use disorder is now available from the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids.
The Pregnancy & Opioids guide, available in PDF format, includes a section on medication-assisted treatment that offers updated information on medications and their compatibility with sound care for pregnant women.
In an announcement about the guide, Steven H. Chapman, MD, of the Boyle Community Pediatrics Program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, wrote, “As a pediatrician, I have seen many women work hard during pregnancy to achieve recovery, and make strong commitments to parenting at the same time. These are some of the most amazing and heroic people I have encountered in my professional career.”
The guide advises individuals to help women develop a sense of pride in both their recovery and their parenting.
