Nonprofits eligible for grants for offender reentry services

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) expects to award grants to up to 16 nonprofit entities to expand substance use treatment and reentry services for adult offenders returning to the community from custody.

Organizations eligible for funding under SAMHSA's Offender Reentry Program include community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, state governments, Native American/Alaskan Native tribal organizations, and universities.

It is expected that grants of up to $425,000 a year for up to five years will be awarded. The application deadline is Jan. 26. Applicants must register with the National Institutes of Health's electronic Research Administration Commons to be eligible for consideration.
