Field mourns loss of Harrison House founder
Stephen Crow, founder of the Harrison House of Virginia addiction treatment facility serving the Washington, D.C., area, died May 26 after a long battle with cancer. Crow established Harrison House, which offers mainly outpatient levels of care, in 1999, and also served as an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College.
Tributes published with Crow's obituary paid testament to the impact he had on the recovery community. One read, “It was evident that God called him to serve in the ministry of the recovery process,” while another simply stated, “He touched thousands.”
Crow began his human-services work at the Crossroads Substance Abuse Residential Program in Alexandria, Va., and also worked at the Psychiatric Institite of Washington, Beacon Recovery Services and INOVA Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services over the course of his career. He also mentored many addiction counselors. A celebration of Crow's life will take place June 4 at New Hope Church in Lorton, Va.
