Yale is calling all innovators for products to fight addiction
Yale University is seeking innovators who would like to bring to market a product that could combat substance use, including the widespread opioid problem.
Innovation to Impact is being supported financially by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The application period opens Dec. 1 and closes Jan. 5 for a program that will launch at Yale in late April. The effort will encompass a range of innovations in areas that include pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, biomedical devices, apps, behavioral interventions and public policy.
“In many cases, the science is there,” said Patricia Simon, PhD, program director for Innovation to Impact and an associate research scientist in psychiatry at Yale. “But many of these innovations fail to reach the public because scientists lack formal training in how to commercialize their innovations. This program aims to give them the tools to make their discoveries translate to real products and services that can help people in need.”
