The 5 grant programs are:

  • Medication-Assisted Treatment – Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction Grant program (MAT-PDOA), $18.2 million. This program expands and enhances access to medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder.
  • Emergency Department Alternatives to Opioids program (ED-ALT), $6.8 million. Funding for this program is used for developing and implementing alternatives to opioids for pain management in hospital and emergency department settings.
  • Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (STOP Act) grants, $3 million. This program is focused on the prevention and reduction of alcohol use among youth and young adults between the ages of 12 and 20.

“SAMHSA’s grant funding helps break the cycles of substance misuse that contribute to America’s addiction and overdose crises,” United States Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Miriam E. Delphin-Rittmon, PhD, who leads SAMHSA, said in a news release. “These grant programs present opportunities on a range of dimensions to increase access to services and supports for families and individuals in the areas of substance use prevention and treatment.”
