Rutgers Opens Center for Adult Autism Services Program

Rutgers University announced it has opened a facility to treat adults with autism spectrum disorder through vocational and recreational programs.

The Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services Community Center is a 10,000-square-foot facility located on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University-New Brunswick. The community center was built at a cost of $9.5 million, financed mostly through philanthropic funds.

The university’s Adult Autism Services program launched in 2016 to provide adults with autism with paid employment and integration into the Rutgers community, as well as individualized support services for students on the autism spectrum and assessment and psychological services for adults.

The new building features vocational, social and life skills teaching areas, training rooms, a kitchen, recreational and common spaces, and meeting rooms. The facility doubles AAS’s capacity to provide employment, job training, assessments and other services.
