Amid Turbulence, Cochran Enters Management Agreement with NUWAY

Following the abrupt resignation of its board of directors and termination of its executive director earlier this month, Cochran Recovery Services in Hastings, Minn., has entered into a management agreement with NUWAY to steady its operations.

Cochran operates a 42-bed residential treatment center for men and women with substance use disorders. The company previously ran a year-round homeless shelter for men, but closed the facility in late 2017.

“NUWAY is exploring the possibility of acquiring Cochran and will evaluate this over the next several months, however, several concerns must first be resolved,” NUWAY chief community relations officer Monique Bourgeois said in a news release.

Among the issues Bourgeiois cited: “missing money, missed financial audits and a severe lack of liquidity,” as well as the expiration of Cochran’s building lease in June. Volunteer leadership team members from NUWAY who are working with Cochran are negotiating a lease extension with the property’s landlord so that treatment services can continue uninterrupted.
