Defran signs community provider collaborative as client

Defran Systems has announced that three of Maryland’s largest providers of mental health services–MOSAIC, Way Station and Family Services, Inc. (FSI)–have selected Defran as their electronic health record (EHR) vendor. These agencies provide a continuum of mental health services to children and adults and will work together to implement Defran’s ONC-certified electronic health solution.

Spurred on by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and by Maryland state incentives, MOSAIC, Way Station and Family Services formed a collaborative EHR relationship to promote higher levels of integrated care.

“Our mission is to support the people we serve, and that certainly includes embracing technology to improve our quality of care and prepare for health reform,” said Lisa Barnum, director of health information technology, FSI. “We picked Defran as our system of choice for its robust functionality, flexible configurability and its support for operations spanning the entire continuum of care. We’re also looking forward to using the software to meet Meaningful Use criteria and integrate with our regional health information exchange.” 

The three agencies provide services in all treatment settings and at all levels of care, including community mental health clinics, vocational, addiction and psychiatric rehabilitation services, day and in-home habilitation, crisis services, targeted case management, adult medical day care and much more. The group will begin their implementation project immediately with a special focus on the criteria for Stage 1 of Meaningful Use in order to meet the September live use deadline.
