Hazelden announces new medical director at Center City location

Hazelden has announced that Pamela Shultz, M.D., has been named medical director of recovery services at Center City, Minn.

As director, Shultz will lead multi-disciplinary care teams (including medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors), oversee all medical programs, ensure quality of care, act as a liaison with other providers in the community, and assist in developing best practices and evidence-based treatment of addiction to alcohol and other drugs.

"Dr. Shultz brings extensive knowledge of the science of addiction, the complications of withdrawal and the most effective protocols for long-term recovery," said Marv Seppala, M.D., Hazelden's chief medical officer. "We're very fortunate to have her aboard."

Shultz earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois in 1979 and completed fellowships in nephrology at Case Western Reserve University in 1987 and addiction medicine at the University of Minnesota in 2008. She has served on the faculties of the universities of Wisconsin and Minnesota and on the staffs of the Minneapolis Department of Veterans Affairs, Hazelden in Plymouth and Meridian Behavioral Health. She currently is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota's Department of Family Medicine and the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies. She has been interim medical director at Center City since March 2012.

Shultz succeeds Omar Manejwala, M.D. who accepted a role as senior vice president of Catasys, a health management services firm.
