Hazelden veteran named top administrator for Betty Ford Center

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation on June 12 named its leadership team for the Betty Ford Center, selecting as its administrator a 14-year veteran of Hazelden who most recently served as vice president of the merged organization's Youth Continuum.

Jim Steinhagen formerly worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis, serving as an addiction counselor and ultimately becoming director of adolescent services. At Hazelden Betty Ford he will now be vice president and administrator in charge of the Betty Ford Center.

Hazelden Betty Ford president and CEO Mark Mishek said in a news release that Steinhagen will lead efforts to expand outpatient services in Southern California and will extend specialized programs in areas such as pain management and the treatment of medical professionals. Extending the continuum of care at Betty Ford has been a high priority in activity associated with the much-watched merger of arguably the two most prominent names in the addiction treatment facility market.

“Jim shepherded a significant expansion and improvement of services at our youth facility in Plymouth, Minn., and weaved together all of our youth initiatives into one cohesive continuum,” Mishek said.

Hazelden Betty Ford also announced that Steve Eickelberg, MD, has been named medical director at the Betty Ford Center. The addiction specialist most recently led a Paradise Valley, Ariz., private practice, with professionals as one priority population. Eickelberg has worked in diverse settings such as Loma Linda University School of Medicine and Kaiser Permanente, and has developed treatment programs for professionals in the aviation industry.
