Linn County selects Defran Systems to power comprehensive Electronic Health Record System

Defran Systems announced that Linn County, Iowa has selected Defran’s leading web-based, case, clinical and financial management software to power their Electronic Health Record System (EHR) for the Linn County Community Services and Health Departments. Linn County selected Defran because the customizable, flexible software solution met their stringent evaluation requirements in addition to supporting the services they offer their community, which span the entire continuum of care.

Linn County, the second most populous county in the State of Iowa, manages a range of service lines from child and family services to mental health and developmental disabilities. Defran was chosen after an exhaustive RFP process and three days of intensive, feature-heavy demonstrations that ensured Defran could meet their wide-ranging needs.

“We’re looking forward to the many benefits this software will provide for both Linn County employees and the citizens we serve,” said Ben Rogers, Linn County supervisor. “We’ll be able to easily share information within our Community Services departments and our Public Health department, and we’ll have improved oversight and management of these records, which will allow us to make better decisions.”

Additionally, Defran’s software is a complete ONC-certified electronic health record, meaning Linn County will be able to pursue Meaningful Use funding and avoid penalties as outlined under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

Linn County has also selected Stern Consulting, LLC based in Chicago to support them and Defran in the system implementation process. “We are thrilled to be working with two best-in-class organizations in Linn County and Defran,” commented Spencer Stern, founder and president, Stern Consulting.

“We are pleased to be the technology partner of the Linn County Community Services and Health Departments,” said Greg Travis, vice president of sales, Defran Systems. “We hope other county providers will see how Defran’s enterprise-wide solution can improve their operations while preparing for health reform, health information exchange and other industry changes. Implementing integrated electronic health record software is the first step toward eliminating reliance on paper records.”
