Discovery Behavioral Health Appoints CEO for Casa Palmera

Discovery Behavioral Health (DBH) announced on Tuesday that it has appointed social services executive Christian Losch as the new CEO of Casa Palmera, a residential and outpatient behavioral health treatment center in Del Mar, California. Losch previously served as CEO of DBH’s Pinelands Recovery Center in Medford, New Jersey, and he will continue to report to Jennifer Carvalho, president of DBH’s Substance Use Disorder Division, in his new role.

A 17-year veteran of the substance use treatment field, Losch is dually licensed as a clinical social worker and clinical alcohol and drug counselor. He has served as a primary therapist, program coordinator, and clinical director in detox, residential, and outpatient treatment programs for adolescents, young adults, adults, and first responders.

As CEO of Casa Palmera, Losch will be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the facility’s residential and outpatient programs.

“Christian’s expertise in managing behavioral health treatment centers as well as his clinical experience as a healthcare professional are highly valued, and I’m delighted he has decided to stay with Discovery Behavioral Health for the next chapter in his career,” Carvalho said in a news release.

Bicycle Health Hires New Chief Operating Officer

Bicycle Health, a telehealth-based provider of integrated medical and behavioral healthcare for opioid use disorder, has appointed Amy Finney as its new chief operating officer, the company announced on Wednesday.

Finney comes to Bicycle from One Medical, where she most recently served as vice president of operations, leading the company’s Incident Response Team, launching mobile, drive-through COVID-19 testing sites, and operationalizing rapid, in-office testing.

Finney joins Bicycle Health as the company continues a yearlong period of growth that began in June 2022 with the announcement of a $50 million Series B fundraising round that allowed Bicycle to expand its virtual treatment model to 6 new states (and 29 states served overall).

Elevance Health Foundation Announces Grant Recipients

Elevance Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Elevance Health, announced the expansion of its substance use disorder grants through an additional $5.7 million in awards to 20 organizations, bringing its award total to more than $19.7 million. Each grant will address substance use disorders, focusing on access to care, quality of treatment, and/or youth prevention and early intervention.

The awards announced on Wednesday are part of a second phase of grants that will total $30 million through the end of 2024. The 20 organizations receiving grants join 15 previous recipients. The phase 1 grantees have reached more than 161,000 people with prevention and early intervention efforts, as well as 1170 individuals reached with treatment and community or long-term support, according to a news release.

Additional information for organizations seeking to apply for future grants is available on the Elevance Health Foundation website.
