UHS, Trinity Health Michigan Break Ground on Behavioral Hospital

UHS and Trinity Health Michigan announced this week that they have broken ground on Southridge Behavioral Hospital, a joint venture between the organizations that will be located in Byron Center, Michigan.

Slated to open in 2025, the hospital will have a 96-bed capacity, serving adult and older adult patients. It is expected to have a staff of 170 full-time and part-time employees, including physicians, nurses, therapists, mental health technicians, administration, dietary, and housekeeping personnel.

Southridge Behavioral Hospital will offer treatment services for depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, and other mental health issues.

Through its subsidiaries, UHS operates 28 inpatient acute care hospitals, 331 inpatient behavioral health facilities, and 39 outpatient facilities. Trinity Health Michigan operates 9 hospitals and 2 medical groups that serve 29 counties within the state.

Caron Treatment Centers Adds PHP

Caron Treatment Centers announced on Monday that it has launched a partial hospitalization program (PHP), extending the levels of care offered at its main campus in Wernersville, Pennsylvania. The new offering will serve as a bridge for clients who have completed inpatient treatment, but are not yet ready for outpatient care. PHP patients will stay in a sober living housing on the Caron campus while completing intensive counseling and group work.

The new PHP is in-network with Caron’s health insurance partners “when clinically appropriate,” the company said in a news release. The program will allow individuals to address trauma, chronic pain, spirituality, relapse and family issues, with ongoing psychiatry and psychology treatment from Caron’s inpatient program to PHP as clinically indicated.

“Length of stay matters,” Caron Chief Clinical Officer David Rotenberg said in a news release. “We know from research and our nearly 70 years of experience in addiction medicine that the longer an individual stays engaged in treatment, the better the outcome.

“Currently, most of our patients in Pennsylvania stay for approximately 28 days of in-patient treatment before they step down to a lower level of care. With limited options for patients requiring a partial hospitalization program, especially those who need medication-assisted treatment, Caron is excited to now provide these individuals the sober, supportive living environment needed while continuing their extensive clinical care.”

Beyond Healthcare Appoints Medical Director

Beyond Healthcare, a provider of holistic mental healthcare services for teens and their families, announced recently that it has appointed Mallery Neff, MD, as its new medical director. Dr Neff is board-certified as a pediatrician, adult psychiatrist, and child psychiatrist in 2 states.

Her appointment comes as Beyond Healthcare looks to expand its footprint in Ohio. The organization currently has locations in Toledo, Fairlawn, and Beachwood, and plans to open 2 additional locations in the fall of 2023.
