Business Briefs: Workit Health, Handspring Health, Landmark Recovery, Monument, Tempest

Tom Valentino, Digital Managing Editor

Workit Health, a Michigan-based provider of virtual substance use disorder programs, announced this week that it has launched a telehealth clinical program for stimulant use disorder. The program is the first fully virtual clinical care offering for methamphetamine, cocaine, and other stimulant addictions, the company said in a news release.

Patients with stimulant use disorders will be able to access telemedicine visits and, if appropriate, receive e-prescriptions for medications from a local pharmacy. Workit noted that although no medications are currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat stimulant use disorders, some medications used to treat common co-occurring disorders have been found to decrease stimulant cravings.

The telehealth-based programs will also incorporate contingency management, individual and group therapy, and an interactive therapeutic curriculum.

Handspring Health Closes $6.2 Million Seed Financing Round

Handspring Health, a New Jersey-based provider of family mental healthcare services, has announced the closing of its $6.2 million seed round. The financing round was co-led by Newark Venture Partners and NextView Ventures, along with participation from 25madison Ventures, Arkitekt Ventures, Quantum Angels, and several healthcare operators.

Handspring said in a release it plans to use the funding to develop its pediatric mental health system, accelerate clinician hiring, open clinics in New Jersey, invest in technology and patient experience, launch payer partnerships, and expand into new markets.

Landmark Recovery Expands Medication-Assisted Treatment in Kentucky

Landmark Recovery announced this week that it has expanded its medication-assisted treatment offerings in Kentucky with the opening of a second program in Louisville, known as Landmark Recovery Suboxone Clinic of Louisville. Landmark will pair medication with 12 months of dialectical behavior therapy that involves weekly individual therapy sessions, group skills training, and phone-based consultations. Receipt of medication is dependent on patients’ participation in and fulfillment of scheduled therapy sessions.

Founded in 2016, Landmark provides detox, residential, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization services in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Nevada. Its sister organization, Praxis by Landmark Recovery, serves the Medicaid population.

Monument Acquires Tempest to Expand Digital Alcohol Use Disorder Treatment

Monument, a telehealth platform for alcohol use disorder, announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire the digital alcohol recovery program Tempest.

In a news release announcing the deal, Monument said it will integrate Tempest’s resource library and community programming into its existing clinician-led care plans, which include medication-assisted treatment, therapist-moderated support groups, and specialized therapy. Once the acquisition is completed, Monument said its audience will grow to 300,000 across all channels. In the meantime, Monument and Tempest will continue to offer their respective services on their existing platforms, and Tempest members will have access to content, support calls, and community on the Tempest platform.
