4th Annual WI-SICP Educational Conference: Bigger Than Ever! The 4th Annual WI-SICP Educational Conference was held at the Kalahari Water Park and Resort in the Wisconsin Dells on November 13-14, 2009. The annual board of directors meeting took place, and chapter initiatives and issues were discussed. Leadership role changes occurred, with current chapter chair Erwin Wuehr stepping down, and incoming chair Stephanie Hillmann assuming the position. Also in attendance were secretary Christian Rabetski and treasurer Ann Russart. A new position of liaison coordinator was created and Erwin Wuehr was appointed to the role. The conference kicked off with a Friday night reception and check-in at the Kalahari Lanes, where attendees mingled and renewed old friendships. The reception was followed with a chapter meeting. Stephanie Hillmann and Ann Russart presented Erwin Wuehr and Christian Rabetski with framed certificates acknowledging their time and commitment to the Society. Following the reception, attendees participated in a fun-filled evening of bowling and pizza. The conference opened Saturday morning with a welcome address from outgoing chapter chair Erwin Wuehr, where he reviewed the past year’s accomplishments, including: • Development of the WI-SICP Chapter website, https://sicpwisconsin.ning.com/. (Thanks to Miles Carver, St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, WI) • Elimination of paper handouts for the conference. Speaker presentations were posted to the chapter website. • Development of a liaison network consisting of cath lab nurses and techs from almost every cath lab in the state that would assist the Society in disseminating information to their colleagues. Wuehr also introduced Zorka Musovic, current chair for the Illinois Chapter. The conference had outstanding speakers and topics, including: • Future Trends in Cardiology: Matthew Wolff, MD, UW-Madison Hospitals, Madison, WI • Interesting Electrophysiology Studies: Indrajit Choudhuri, MD, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI • New Techniques in Complex Peripheral Cases: Thomas Shimshak, MD, FACC, Wheaton Franciscan Health Care, Milwaukee, WI • Identification of Cardiac Physiology from Hemodynamic Waveform Analysis: Stephanie Hillmann, RN, BSN, RCIS, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI • Implementation of Therapeutic Hypothermia after Cardiac Arrest: Sara J. Marzinski, RN, BSN, CCRN, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI • IVUS & FFR — Exploring Utility, Contrast and Comparison: Amy McCoskey MBA, MS, RT(R), Boston Scientific Following the afternoon break, a fetal calf cardiac dissection was offered with Monica McDonald, MD, Midwest Heart Surgery Institute, Milwaukee, WI, facilitating. The conference was well received with positive feedback from attendees. Attendance increased over the previous year, with 74 attendees and 15 vendors in 2009 — an increase from 53 attendees and 10 vendors in 2008!
