SICP Illinois Chapter Update

The 4th Annual WI-SICP A very successful IVUS and FFR symposium was held Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the recently relocated Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL. The symposium was sponsored by Sherman Hospital, Volcano Corporation and the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals. James Torey, PA-C, St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit, MI, conducted an outstanding presentation on intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) in everyday practice. He began with the basics, progressing toward a thorough understanding of the importance of these technologies to patients and their procedural outcomes. With an emphasis on the recently released PROSPECT and FAME-2 trials, the audience left with knowledge that “angiography alone is not enough.” Mr. Torey shared some of his clinical cases with the audience and even had them participate in image interpretation and their course of treatment. Maciej Malinski, MD, presented some of his IVUS and FFR cases and engaged the audience in a lively discussion. The day ended with an opportunity for the attendees to gain some hands-on experience with the Volcano IVUS/FFR machine. The 45 attendees included two interventional cardiologists from Sherman Hospital.
