Basic telecommunicator training course
APCO Institute announces the release of its new basic telecommunicator training course, Public Safety Telecommunicator I (PST1), 6th Edition. PST1 is the first and only basic training course certified by APCO International as meeting and exceeding the APCO Project 33 Revised Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators. Vastly different from the previous edition, the new student course blends the knowledge and skill-building information needed for a basic telecommunicator with the most up-to-date information on the technology and issues surrounding today's pubic safety communications center. New additions to the student course include topics such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and the telecommunicator's role in the Department of Homeland Security's NIMS Incident Command System.

Real-time fleet tracking
AccuGlobe Mobile Command Center, a new application designed by Digital Data Technologies, Inc. (DDTI), allows public safety officials to view the locations of their fleet vehicles online. An extension of DDTI's Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) product used in public safety answering points (PSAPs), Mobile Command Center gives the option of viewing on one screen units actively protecting communities. Subscribers enter a secure, two-step login process online, first entering a unique passcode generated every minute from a digital key fob assigned to that user. After verifying that first level of security, the user then enters DDTI-assigned username and password information. The application allows users to view the locations of all active units, track their path, observe vehicle speed and review historical activity.

Enhanced 9-1-1 products
The Telident Call Locator from Teltronics allows emergency responders to immediately locate 9-1-1 callers using PBX extensions in large businesses and campus environments. The Call Locator is a hardware module that is installed between the PBX and the public telephone network to translate a 9-1-1 caller's station number to a format compatible with the E-9-1-1 system-information that is critical for locating callers in large business and campus environments. The Call Locator works with any PBX that supports ISDN/PRI, and may send 9-1-1 calls to the public E-9-1-1 system over CAMA and PRI circuits, ensuring compatibility with all telephone companies.
