EMT-Basic:
Skills include: Those defined in the DOT training criteria plus additional (supraglottic airway, epi-pen, albuterol).
Hours of training: 194.
Licensure requirements: Passage of practical examination conducted by the Michigan Education Program Sponsor and passage of NREMT exam.
License Renewal requirements: 30 credits ongoing education (practical credits included) or 36 hour refresher course.
EMT-Intermediate:
Skills include: I-85 standards, including endotracheal intubation.
Hours of training: 85.
Licensure requirements: Passage of NREMT written and practical examinations.
License Renewal requirements: 36 credits ongoing education or 42 hour refresher course.
EMT-Paramedic.
Skills include: Those defined in the National Curriculum.
Hours of training: It is recommended that the course be planned for approximately 1000-1200 total hours of instruction (500-600 classroom/practical laboratory, plus 250-300 clinical and 250-300 field internship hours).
Licensure requirements: Passage of NREMT written and practical examinations.
License Renewal requirements: 45 ongoing education hours or 54 hour refresher course.
Responsible certification agency: Department of Community Health. Physician involvement required at all levels.
Reciprocity: Must pass National Registry exam for licensure.
