2011 National Run Survey
For the 31st year, the career fire service took to the pages of Firehouse® Magazine to share statistics about company and department activity levels, funding, staffing and pay. A total of 219 fire departments took part in this year’s survey, representing 41 states, the District of Columbia and four Canadian provinces. The departments represented in this latest survey protect 77,295,385 people and have budgets totaling more than $12 billion (budgets are listed in millions of dollars). They provide this service with 3,569 engine companies, 1,275 ladder companies, 1,404 ambulances and numerous specialized units. They responded to 1,170,559 fire calls, 7,392,941 EMS calls and 8,929,738 total calls last year.
