National Membership Open to All
Scott Matin says that his four-year involvement with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is a great value for his organization, and anyone involved in EMS today.
Matin, the vice president of Clinical, Education and Business Services at MONOC Mobile Health Services in Neptune, NJ, joined NAEMT in 2008 after colleagues were telling him about the benefits it offered to members. “I never realized that NAEMT’s main mission was to represent and serve their 32,000 members through intense advocacy, educational programs and research,” Matin says.
He explains that every-day benefits include things such as multiple free and discounted continuing education programs, a break on the registration fee for EMS Expo, subscription perks to industry publications, insurance coverage benefits, hotel discounts and the list goes on. “In some cases, just using one benefit each year exceeds the $40 we pay annually,” Matin adds.
He says that times are changing and NAEMT is a great resource for EMTs in all sectors. Matin remarks that the first thing he found unique about the organization is its dedication to representing the professional interests of all EMS practitioners. NAEMT is run by a board of directors, who are elected by the associations’ active members. Its annual meeting takes place every year in conjunction with EMS Expo, and in 2013 will be held from September 9–10 in Las Vegas. The annual meeting is just another benefit to add to the list, and open to members free of charge. It is one of the many educational opportunities available in NAEMT.
The association’s online newsletter, NAEMTPulse, comes out monthly and a quarterly NAEMT News is also available for members. Matin says this keeps busy EMS professionals “up to date and informed as EMS continually evolves in the United States.”
